Life At The Traffic Stop

In Michigan, there’s a law that you can turn right on a red light after you have stopped and checked traffic. That is fine for small intersections and country roads. I don’t like it at major intersections because the traffic is farther away and you just never know who might be speeding along in a lane towards you. So I like to just wait at these stops for a green light. Then the people behind me honk and expect me to turn, even when I’m not comfortable doing so.
So I was going to be at one of these stops and I prayed for a green light. Well, as I got near, I could see that two cars were stopped at a red light ahead of me. As I paused, I relaxed. Their blinkers weren’t on so they were going straight through the intersection on green. I hadn’t thought about that possibility. It worked out splendidly and I made my turn on green as I like to do.

Several times I have told the Lord how to answer my prayer. I have a finances problem right now. I asked Him to work it my way. He declined that suggestion. He does promise to meet my needs. I know that He will provide in another way, a way I am not expecting.

That little incident at the light was the highlight of my day. I had much frustration trying to find some things shopping that I couldn’t find. All I could do was smile that The Lord met me and showed me He has everything covered, but in His own way. I just love it when He does that.

  1. We have the same law in IL, and I do the same thing with the Lord in my prayers! I love this little story of yours, Nancy, and also your comment on my blog today about tattoos. Thanks!

  2. This story is a great reminder. I often pray for God to do things my way. There is a certain sense of peace in letting go and letting Him do it His way.

  3. He does do it in His way and not ours. I am so glad for His answers that come! :O)

  4. I love turns on red but I hate left turns! Sometimes I'll turn right and then do a U-ey at the next light. lol I'm sure God will care for you in your financial situation. *hugs*

  5. I just read the start of your post out loud to my hubby, Nancy, because I was literally JUST discussing this with him a few days ago! This is a pet peeve of mine. While I will sometimes turn right on red, I get really annoyed whenever I hear people honking at somebody who doesn't want to do so!

I love how you tied it in with your prayers. I tend to get too specific sometimes, in my requests to God. And it's usually my son who reminds me that "God will solve it the way he thinks best, mom." ;o)

  6. I had to laugh when I saw Jess' comment. I don't like left turns either!

We have the right turn on red law here as well. Isn't it great the way the Lord gives us the desire of our hearts?

  7. Some say "the devil is in the details." I don't say that. I think the Heavenly Father is in the details! Your "testimony" is another example of it!

  8. I love this, Nancy. I had a similar experience a few weeks ago. God will always provide--even if it's not how we expected. :) Have a wonderful weekend!

  9. When it comes to being out in city traffic, I used to get a little knot in my stomach when I'd have to get into the other lane and traffic was heavy. Sometimes I'd be signaling and no one would let me in -- in fact some speed up so as to not let a person in at all.

So years ago I decided that this was one of those 'fret not' moments that I needed to include Him in. So when I needed to make a lane change, I'd just ask for favour... so often, probably every time, the space opens up... someone has either sped up ahead or slowed. All without that knot forming.

It's made my errand outings so much more relaxing and beautiful.
